The first thing that surprises is the size: over fifty thousand square metres under roof and sixty thousand American oak butts ageing fino, manzanilla, amontillado, oloroso, palo cortado, medium, cream, Pedro Ximénez and moscatel at once — among the largest installations in Europe, listed as Patrimony of Andalusia. Alongside the sherries, two things that aren’t wine: Dos Maderas rum and Gran Duque de Alba brandy. The guide goes exclusively with your group, in Spanish, English or German, and every space is accessible. Ten minutes by car from Montecastillo.
The tour through the naves and a tasting of four wines with a potato-and-olive snack. The natural entry point for anyone who has never tasted sherry.
The same visit adding the Gran Duque de Alba. There is also a version centred on biological ageing, which explains the flor veil in front of the butts.
Two hours and the reason it's worth upgrading: a 30-year amontillado Jalifa, a 30-year palo cortado Dos Cortados, a 30-year Canasta and a 20-year Pedro Ximénez Don Guido.
Two of the house's own paths: Dos Maderas rum, aged in butts that once held sherry, and the 15-year Don Zoilo. For those who already know the wine and want what they didn't expect to find.
The expensive tasting takes fewer people than the cheap one. It sounds backwards and it isn't: the four-wine tasting needs eight people; the Special Soleras, four. So if two couples travel together, the visit that fits them is precisely the one with the thirty-year wines.
Williams & Humbert is not included in the price of any stay. It is booked through us, paid at its own rate, and we set the time, notify the winery and arrange the transfer if wanted. We always recommend the transfer: there's drinking involved.
