About Ophir

Ophir was, in the ancient world, the land of gold. No one knows for certain where it stood. What is known is that the gold arrived on the ships of Tarshish, and Tarshish is the name antiquity gave to this corner of the Atlantic, where the mines it came from can still be seen.

We've reclaimed that name for a real territory: Huelva, the Algarve, Jerez and Sanlúcar, and Seville. Golf courses at the edge of marshland and cliff, wine houses that open only by appointment, and a cuisine eaten where it's fished and where it's raised. All within a two-hour radius: here you change country without changing hotel. Breakfast facing the marsh, golf in the Algarve, dinner in Jerez — and there's no need to unpack.

1 Point of contact

Between Jerez and the Algarve there are seven wine houses that work with us, and we know their winemakers by name. They aren't an excursion tacked onto the end of the trip: they go inside it, with the time set, so they never cost anyone a hole. A thirty-year amontillado in the afternoon and eighteen holes in the morning fit in the same day. That combination doesn't exist at any other golf destination in Europe, and it isn't a figure of speech: Jerez and Sanlúcar are twenty minutes apart, they use the same grape, and a different wine comes out — and that's only understood by tasting them the same day, one after the other.

Jerez, Sanlúcar and the Condado de Huelva all age their wines under flor — a living layer of yeast kept alive by the Atlantic humidity. Cross the Guadiana and that ends: in the Algarve there's young wine, from grapes almost no one outside Portugal has tried, made on small estates that face the same sea.

How we work

We design private trips, one by one. There are no quotas, no guaranteed departures, no brochure to choose from. There's a conversation, and afterwards an itinerary with a closed price and a single person on the other end of the phone, before, during and after the trip.

Your wine, from right here. A service that grows out of all this, and that no one else offers. When you get home, the wine you discovered here stays within reach: you tell us what you want and from which house, and we arrange it with the winery so it's shipped to your country, whenever you like and as often as you like. There's no need to travel again to keep drinking from the same barrel. And if you want something you didn't try — a vintage, a VORS, the blend you bottled yourself in the adega — we'll find it at the house that has it.

How it works. You write to us. We talk to the winery, give you the price with shipping included, and you decide. The bottle ships from the winery itself, not a warehouse.

We design for those who look for a luxury that's noticed in the detail, not the volume. None of it is announced. It's simply there when you arrive.
