Óbidos · Silver Coast · Portugal
It's the last course Severiano Ballesteros ever designed, and for a European golfer that's enough. A par 71 of 6,303 metres with his signature all over it: large, very white bunkers, abundant water and fast bentgrass greens. The front nine plays overlooking the Óbidos Lagoon, inside a nature reserve. It's the part that gets photographed, and also the one that demands the most decisions: with Seve, risk was always on the table. Since 2017 it has hosted the Portuguese Open continuously, making it the Silver Coast's top competitive course. And yet it plays comfortably: it isn't the longest in the area and forgives more than it looks like it will from the tee. It's less than ten minutes from Bom Sucesso and a quarter-hour from walled Óbidos.
The last Seve. There aren't many courses signed by Ballesteros, and this is the last one. For any European player who grew up watching him, playing it isn't just another round: it's the reason for the trip.
