San Roque · Cádiz
There's just one argument, and it's a good one: the Links at La Hacienda is the only genuine links-style course on the whole Costa del Sol. It's been recently reworked by Kurtis Bowman, and from its fairways you can see the Mediterranean, the Rock of Gibraltar and the coast of North Africa. The Heathland is its opposite and its complement: a par 72 by Dave Thomas, laid out among hills, plateaus and lakes, further inland and more sheltered. Playing both in the same day means switching styles of golf twice without changing car parks. The resort won Best Golf Course in Spain 2023 at the World Golf Awards, ranks among the world's hundred best golf resorts and is a member of European Tour Destinations. Its halfway house, la Calma, was voted the world's best halfway house in 2024, an unusual award that says a lot about the level of detail here.
Thirty-six holes, two different golfs. Links in the morning, heathland in the afternoon, with the Strait in view all day. It's the most complete day in Sotogrande, and the only way to play a genuine links on the Costa del Sol.
