Aljaraque · Huelva
Two eras are played in the same round, and that's what makes it interesting. The front nine is from 1976: narrow fairways among pines and small greens, the size courses were built back then, forcing you to place the tee shot because the pine forest shows no mercy. The back nine is from 1995, more open, with large greens where you can finally attack the pin. It's a par 69, which isn't common, and that gives it a different rhythm: fewer par 5s and more long irons into the green. The distances between green and tee are short, so you play fast and walk little, with the sea breeze always in the mix. It's the oldest course in the province and the one that taught half of Huelva to play. In 2021 the club was inducted into the Royal Order of Sporting Merit. It's in Aljaraque, ten minutes from the capital and a quarter-hour from the beaches.
Twenty years between the 9th hole and the 10th. The front nine is from 1976 and the back from 1995, and you can feel it when you play them. It isn't a flaw: it's a course that tells the story of how course design changed over two decades, and it tells it on its own.
